Dear FAA Community,
This month, I am excited to announce two important updates from our school. Firstly, we have launched a new task force dedicated to reflecting and advising on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and specifically ChatGPT. The task force is composed of parents experts in the field, as well as teachers and administrators from our school. We are working together to examine the ethical and practical implications of AI for our students. We believe that this initiative will help us stay at the forefront of educational innovation. Meanwhile, our students from kindergarten to 8th grade are also developing many skills through coding. Read about it in our coding blog.
Secondly, we are thrilled to welcome Sebastien Ziankike as our new HR Coordinator. Sebastien has worked with global companies such as Air Canada and BNP Paribas. He will be responsible for supporting and developing our talented and dedicated staff, ensuring that we are providing the best possible work environment and professional development opportunities. We believe that Sebastien's skills and experience will be invaluable in helping us to maintain a strong and engaged team of educators.
I wish you connected and empathic weeks ahead.
With gratitude,
Anne-Sophie Gueguen

Reading Buddies |
At the Jersey City campus, we started a program called "copains de lecture" where students in 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades visit monthly PK2 and PK4 students and read books to them.
The goal of this program is to promote the benefits of reading for both the readers and listeners. The older students can improve their public speaking skills, such as speech, intonation, and fluency. Meanwhile, the younger children can learn to listen to longer stories that are different from what their teachers read to them and understand the content. Both students and teachers are excited about this project and look forward to the next reading session.

Englewood & Jersey City
Face-Off in Thrilling Tournament! |
On Thursday, February 16th, the sports teacher, Chloe Leguem, organized a thrilling handball tournament between the Englewood and Jersey City campuses. Over 150 students from first to fifth grade had the opportunity to meet and compete in small handball matches throughout the day. The event also allowed the students to make new friends during play and recess.
Laughter and shouts echoed throughout the JC campus gymnasium, and cheers from supporters could be heard from the bleacher seats. The students played with enthusiasm and were rewarded with medals and diplomas. A big thank you to all of the teachers for their unwavering dedication to making this day a celebration. |

Coding Class: A Cross-Curricular Powerhouse |
We offer coding classes to our students from Kindergarten to eighth grade as part of our STEM curriculum. But what are children actually learning in coding class, and why?
Coding lessons are not just learning to write a program; they are rich mini laboratories during which students develop skills in problem-solving, communication and collaboration, spatial awareness, language, mathematics, and more. As an added bonus, the lessons are lots of fun! Read more about coding classes at the FAA on our blog. |

Performing Arts Takes Over Middle School |
From February 13 to 17, our Middle School students recently had a one-of-a-kind experience in Performing Arts. Led by our former teacher Gladys Venturelli, students were able to choose their groups and immerse themselves in the world of dance, acting, set design, and audiovisual engineering. Together, the students worked on a production highlighting the importance of sustainable development and the impact of plastic on our world. Through this project, students not only develop their creativity, collaboration and leadership skills, but also reflect on the challenges facing our world today and how their actions can make a positive difference. |

Linking Goals with Actions for a Healthier Planet |
|
|
With support from their families, FAA students just wrapped up the annual “Ma Petite Planète” challenge, documenting actions they took to help achieve the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development goals. Altogether, our school completed 4,589 challenges for the planet! Our sustainability committees and coordinators have also been very active, organizing recycling and composting, food drives, and campaigns to reduce food waste, among other things. Our blog has more information about sustainability at the FAA. |
